Animal cruelty and neglect are serious, senseless crimes and almost always lead to child abuse or domestic violence.
In the past month, this area has had several cases of cruelty. A cat was shot in the face and will be partially blind for life. Severed dog legs were found behind a thrift store on the west side of town. Recently, a mother cat was killed and placed in a dumpster with her kittens. Her kittens were rescued.
This area has several animal rescues. This mom and kittens would have been to either Catlink (509-364-0083, 509-365-3771) or Columbia Gorge Cat Rescue (541-386-2743) no questions asked. Obviously, the cold-hearted killer did not have the decency to ask for help.
Both organizations are staffed entirely by volunteers. Neither will brush off people by saying “There is no room.” Phone calls are answered as quickly as possible and messages are vital so callers can be directed to the nearest volunteer.
Being a responsible pet owner is having them spayed or neutered. Had this mom been fixed, chances are she would be alive today.
Yes, we can end up with a stray on occasion, but please ask for help before it becomes a problem.

If you are aware of any cruelty instances, please contact the sheriff’s department right away. Without being reported, the ones involved cannot be caught and prosecuted. Remember, the next victim may be your child.
