Hood River photographer Stephen Datnoff captured an early morning catch by a bald eagle. The eagle is seen baking left and returning close to the shore, where Datnoff was standing. He said that between Christmas and March 1, around 159 eagles can be seen in the Gorge. This year he’s seeing fewer overall. “Usually there are about 40 at The Dalles Dam, but today, Jan. 25, there were only 15,” he said, adding, “Any photographer can shoot upwards. But I’d rather shoot at even elevation with them, or down at them. I have several perch access in the Gorge where no one else is.”
