Funeral homes often submit obituaries as a service to the families they are assisting. However, we will be happy to accept obituaries from family members pending proper verification of the death.
I lost Mama on Jan. 25, 2026. Although I am heart broken, a few weeks prior to her passing, I knew this was going to be the only outcome.
Mama lived her life to the fullest with Papa for more than 50 years and, at 98, to have that beautiful smile warmed the hearts of everyone at Parkhurst and beyond. Residents and staff became my family during the two-plus years she lived there — what a wonderful group of folks and I hope to have them in my life forever.
Mom and Dad ran two successful businesses in Hood River for about 25 years each: Zalph Wilson Realty and the Red Carpet Inn. Mama was a devout member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and we spent many years working at weddings, funerals and holiday dinners and festivities. Mama was an accomplished seamstress for many decades, and in her later years took up painting until her eyes became too bad. Mama loved having me read to her when I would visit and tell stories of years’ past.
She is survived by her sister, Genie of Montana (and her two grown children and two grandchildren); her daughter, Nancy Wilson Waters; a son, Robert and his grown kids (of which Mom and Dad were very involved in raising); and a granddaughter by marriage, Cara and her three fabulous children.
At a later date, during a private ceremony, she will join Papa at the Willamette National Cemetery. Thank you, Mama, for instilling so many wonderful qualities in me — I will use them for the rest of my life.
