Letter to the editor: Need gun safety

Such measures would expand background checks to include private sales, such as those on the Internet, which are now a free-for-all.

If you make the terrorist watch list, you can’t get on a plane, but you can buy an assault weapon. You can be court-ordered into mental health treatment, and you can still buy a gun through private sale.

This is not OK.

Gun rights advocates often say, “It is not guns that kill people. It’s people that kill people.” I agree.

So let’s do EVERYTHING we can to keep guns out of the hands of the WRONG people.

Background checks are not the only thing we need to do to make our society safety, but they are one common sense move in the right direction.

Today, there are at least 300 million guns owned privately in the U.S.
