Gov. Kate Brown on Friday ordered all flags at Oregon public institutions to be flown at half-staff in honor of Ashland Police Officer Malcus Williams, who died on duty while responding to an emergency call on March 2. Flags were lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Saturday, March 17, the date of Officer Williams’ memorial service.

“Officer Williams was a beloved and respected member of the Ashland community, whose compassionate and selfless service will long be remembered,” Brown said. “My heart goes out to his family and loved ones, and I extend my sincere appreciation to all of Oregon’s law enforcement community.”
