As Oregon kids say goodbye to summer and return to school, many will have great memories of fishing, swimming, boating, or just being next to a special river.
Honoring Our Rivers, Oregon’s only statewide student anthology focused on rivers and watersheds, is encouraging students to turn those memories into works of art—and submit them for publication in the 2015 Honoring Our Rivers anthology. Submissions are now being accepted, with a final deadline of Jan. 31, 2015.
Honoring Our Rivers is an effort that engages the creative capacities of Oregon youth to promote and nurture respect for Oregon’s cherished rivers, and the watersheds that give them life. For the past 14 years, the anthology has featured original paintings, drawings, photographs, poems, and essays created by Oregon students, from kindergarten through college. Over 4,000 anthologies are distributed free of charge to schools and libraries across the state.
Visit www.honoringour-rivers.org for complete guidelines, submission form, teaching aids, and more information about Honoring Our Rivers.
Submissions should be sent to:
Honoring Our Rivers, c/o Willamette Partnership
4640 SW Macadam, Suite 50

In recent years, Honoring Our Rivers has received more than 900 submissions, of which about 150 are selected for inclusion in the anthology. Students have the opportunity to participate in public readings (such as at Powell’s City of Books) and have their work appear in print alongside some of Oregon’s best-known authors and artists. Past anthologies have included work by Barry Lopez, Ursula K. Le Guin, Brian Doyle, Paulann Petersen, Ellen Waterston, Charles Goodrich, Robin Cody, Gina Ochsner, and Charles Finn.
