Riverside Community Church, UCC, in conjunction with Bethel United Church of Christ, is again offering Our Whole Lives (OWL), an award-winning sexual health program which helps 7th-9th grade students make informed and responsible decisions about their sexual health and behavior. Resources for the class are based on the Guidelines for Comprehensive Sexuality Education produced by the National Guidelines Task force, a group of leading health, education and sexuality professionals assembled by the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States.
Parent Orientation night is Wednesday, 7-8:30 p.m. at Riverside. Classes start on Sept. 30 and run through mid-February, 7-8:30 p.m. (along with a few weekend dates to be announced). The fee is $150, with full or partial scholarships available.
Anyone who is interested in having their 7-9th grader participate in the class must attend the parent orientation session. Families who are interested, along with the program teachers, will choose an evening that works best for the group.

OWL equips students with accurate, age-appropriate decisions in six subject areas: human development, relationships, personal skills, sexual behavior, sexual health, society and culture. Grounded in a holistic view of sexuality, OWL provides not only facts about anatomy and human development, but helps participants to clarify their values, build interpersonal skills, understand gender and sexual orientation issues, as well as teaching the spiritual, emotional and social aspects of sexuality. Although developed by two religious organizations, the United Church of Christ and the Unitarian Universalist Association, OWL contains no religious doctrine.
