Hood River Police, May 19 - 31
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: DUII (five), harassment (one), theft (one), warrant (one).
Notable incidents
Five DUII arrests. In one incident, a resident of Battle Ground, Wash., was arrested on the charge of DUII - alcohol. A subsequent breath test revealed a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit.
Four theft calls. Shoplifting, fraudulent charge on a debit card, and items stolen from a motor home,.
One vehicle crashes. A two-vehicle, non-injury vehicle crash too place near the intersection of 12th and May streets.
Officers received a call of suspicious activity at Walmart. A clerk advised a credit card skimmer had been found at a checkout. Officers placed the skimmer into evidence.
Officers took a report of an assault that occurred in front of a business.
Officers took a call from Department of Human Services (DHS) staff regarding attempt to located and welfare check.
During a traffic stop, officers impounded a vehicle due to the driver not having valid driving privileged, the vehicle being uninsured, and its hazardous position on the roadway.
A business reported fraudulent activity involving a company check.
Officers secured an abandoned skateboard found on private property for safekeeping.
A person was cited for public urination and trespassed from the park on Union Street.
The Dalles Police, May 24 - 30
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Attempted murder (one), assault (one), charge(s) not listed (one), disorderly conduct (one), DUII (one), felony strangulation (one), offensive littering (one), restraining order violation (one), theft (one), trespass (two), warrant (three).
Notable incidents
Twenty animal calls logged. Missing dogs, dogs at large, whimpering dogs, dog scratching a person, ongoing issue with three escaping goats, unwanted dog abandoned with reporting party.
Seven theft reports. Vehicle from Mt. Hood Street on May 24, car key, items from vehicle at Water’s Edge parking lot, tools from a job site on Webber Street, money from bottle drop account. In one incident, two bikes were reported stolen from W. Seventh on May 26, the locks cut through. In another, a U-Haul trailer was stolen from W. Second on May 27. A Pacific Pride gas card, with a name on it, was found near where the trailer was taken. On May 28, a reporting party stated they reserved a U-Haul trailer, and accidentally collected a vehicle from a storage unit instead of U-Haul. They fetched the accidental acquisition back from Portland, and it was returned to the owner.
Twenty-three mental health calls logged.
A vehicle stolen out of The Dalles was located by Umatilla police. A person was occupying the vehicle, which left the area before Umatilla officers could reach it.
W. Fourth Street was closed on May 25 at about 12:40 p.m. because trees and power lines came down across both lanes.
A person was arrested after driving a stolen car “irrationally” on Union Street May 25. The old, reddish Buick, stolen out of Washington, was reported going in really fast circles before parking. The occupant was arrested for a warrant out of Washington and the Buick restored to its registered owner.
A report was taken for a fight on W. Ninth Street.
A burglary report was taken May 28 from a shed on W. Second. The shed was left unlocked by accident, and an electric welder, jackhammer and impact wrench, for a total value of $2,000, were stolen. There was no security footage. Investigation ongoing.
Two hit and run incidents, reported May 28 and May 30, respectively.
Three vehicle crashes. In one incident, a two-vehicle crash resulted in one injury May 28 on E. Second. Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue responded to the collision between an older white Acura four-door sedan and a new red Honda Accord, which blocked the right lane. A passenger and driver were transported to an area emergency room. One driver received three citations. In another, a Toyota Highlander and a Ram crashed on Trevitt Street after one allegedly ran a stop sign. A potential injury was reported.
A bullet hole and bullet were found in a pump house door on E. Scenic Drive and reported by Parks and Rec on May 29. Under investigation.
An unattended death was reported May 29.
A customer passed a fake $100 bill to a Mt. Hood Street business on May 29.
Wasco County Sheriff, May 24 - 30

A DUII, first reported as a vehicle crash, was logged from Dufur Valley Road on May 25.
A drug call came from a sno park on May 28, and another from Ash Street May 29.
Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle was reported at Clarno Recreation Boat Ramp.
A theft was logged from Bakeoven Market Road.
A vehicle crash was logged from westbound Highway 30 on May 29.
Oregon State Police, May 24 - 31
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: DUII (three), reckless driving (one), warrant (one).
Notable incidents
Three DUII arrests. In one incident, a silver Mercedes SUV was stopped after it was observed driving on the wrong side of Pacific Avenue, Hood River. The driver showed signs of impairment and was arrested for DUII, but later provided a breath sample under the legal limit, and was cited and released. In another incident, a Canby resident was cited and released for after a two-vehicle, non-injury crash that partially blocked I-84 near milepost 56 westbound on May 30. A black Ram pickup pulling a trailer had struck a silver Ford Escape at freeway speeds, causing the vehicle to spin within its lane and strike the guardrail. OSP and Hood River deputies responded and observed signs of impairment in the driver of the black Ram, who later provided a blood alcohol content of 0.18%.
One hit and run. Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) was repairing damage guardrail damage caused by a hit and run on May 28, near milepost 75 westbound on I-84, when they located a license plate from the car involved. An OSP trooper contacted the registered owner, who admitted to crashing the vehicle in January after hydroplaning on a large pool of water. They retrieved their license plate from OSP’s office. Two charges are pending or referred to the district attorney.
One theft report. A Longview, Wash., resident hit a deer on Interstate I-84 near Rowena and totaled their car. A towing company retrieved the vehicle. The owner was unable to retrieve their belongings from the vehicle on Memorial Day, made an appointment for Tuesday afternoon, and was informed that the vehicle had been towed to a Portland business after the owner contacted their insurance to release interest in the vehicle. The owner bought the vehicle back — but their belongings were missing. Investigation is ongoing.
A trooper stopped a vehicle for speeding on I-84 near milepost 63 eastbound and failure to display license plates. A strong odor of both burnt and usable marijuana was noted. None of the occupants were 21 and were not allowed to possess marijuana. A passenger under 21 was cited for possessing a pound of marijuana, the driver for speeding.
