Hood River Police, Dec. 24 - 30
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Burglary (two), disorderly conduct (one), driving under the influence of intoxicants (four), drug law violation (one), reckless driving (one), resisting arrest (one), theft (five), trespass (three), warrant (three).
Notable incidents
Four DUII arrests. In one incident, officers responded to a single-vehicle crash at milepost 59 on I-84. The driver was arrested and lodged on charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, reckless driving, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. In another incident, a non-resident was arrested for driving under the influence of intoxicants. A subsequent breath test showed a blood alcohol content of more than twice the legal limit.
Four theft reports. Items from a vehicle, shoplifting (two incidents) and a shipment of alcohol.
Three warrant arrests. In one incident, officers arrested an individual for two outstanding warrants.
Three trespass arrests. All three involved the same transient person within a two-day span.
Two hit and run reports. In one incident, officers took a report of a hit and run involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
Officers secured an abandoned bicycle for safekeeping.
The Dalles Police, Dec. 28 - Jan. 5
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Burglary (one), disorderly conduct (one), DUII (one), harassment (two), resisting arrest (one), trespass (two), warrant (four).
Notable incidents
Three warrant arrests. In one incident, an individual was arrested and lodged at NORCOR after a brief foot pursuit from a residence on Chenowith Creek.
Two burglary arrests. In one incident, an individual was charged with burglary, after their earlier arrest and booking on a separate warrant. In this case, approximately $2,000 in tools was stolen from a shop on 10th Street.
One DUII arrest. An individual was arrested for DUII after crashing into a gate near W. Second.
Twenty-three animal calls. Alleged animal neglect, dogs at large, barking dogs, allegedly fighting dogs, theft of a three-month-old Great White Pyrenees mix, dog bite, alleged aggressive dogs.
Seventeen mental health calls.
Fourteen theft reports. Incidents included theft of holiday decorations, bad check used at a local business, items from business (two incidents), soda from outdoor refrigerator, propane tank from a barbecue, belongings from Irvine Street, ID theft, phone, bicycle, license plates.
Two vehicles were reported stolen.
Two criminal mischief reports. In one incident, city maintenance advised someone poked a hole in the gas line of the library’s van, and it was currently disabled.
Two burglary reports. In one incident, an individual broke the window of W. Sixth store and entered. Donation boxes were broken. In another, a residence on Garrison Street was broken into sometime within the last two weeks, and a Harley Davidson frame and a motor taken. The door was also damaged.
One vehicle crash report. A driver of a Subaru on E. 14th struck a parked vehicle. One vehicle was towed due to front tire damage.
An allegedly stolen generator was left on a reporting party’s property.
A reporting party advised of drug paraphernalia found at an E. Second Street address. An officer picked up the materials for destruction.
Wasco County Sheriff, Dec. 29 - Jan. 5
Notable incidents
Five animal calls. Dogs at large, injured horse, dog injuring sheep. In one incident, a caller reported escaped cattle munching the wheat crop out of a field on Fargher Road. Deputies noted that, this being outside the livestock district, the issue would have to be dealt with via the brand inspector.
Fire was reported at a residence on Lower Eightmile Jan. 4. The single-story structure was reported with signs of fire at about 4:39 a.m., with smoke coming out of the living room. Mid-Columbia Fire & Rescue and Wasco County Sheriff’s Office responded.
A reporting party stated the original lock from the 1900s was removed from the door of Shaniko School House, and taken. Nothing else appeared to be taken. A responding deputy noted no physical damage and no evidence of entry.
Oregon State Police, Dec. 28 - Jan. 5
The following are crimes which resulted in arrests: Driving while suspended or revoked (three), DUII (nine), failure to appear (one), failure to perform duties of driver in accident with property damage (one), failure to present operator’s license (two), failure to report (one), false information (two), offensive littering (one), reckless driving (two), recklessly endangering another person (one), throw burning material (one), unlawful possession of firearm (one), unlawful possession of methamphetamine (one), warrant (one).
Notable incidents
Nine DUII arrests. In one incident, a trooper stopped vehicle for driving 95 in a posted 65 mph zone on I-84. The vehicle nearly struck the center median, then swerved across both lanes and nearly left the roadway. The trooper had reasonable suspicion of DUII; the driver showed several signs of impairment. They were arrested and later lodged for DUII and reckless driving, with a blood-alcohol content over the legal limit. During a search of the vehicle, two concealed firearms were discovered for which the driver had no permits. The trooper also located a large bag of marijuana and residue of cocaine. In another incident, a driver was stopped on I-84 for a traffic violation and reasonable suspicion of DUII. The driver was determined to be impaired and was arrested for DUII and for a confirmed warrant out of Wasco County, later providing a blood alcohol content of twice the legal limit.
One warrant arrest. A trooper stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on I-84. The driver provided a false name and date of birth. The trooper successfully identified the driver, who returned with multiple felony warrants. They were arrested and lodged at NORCOR on the warrants, as well as failure to carry and present a license, false information to police, littering, and unlawful possession of methamphetamine.
Four non-injury crashes. In one incident, a Freightliner attempted to make a right-hand turn into a gravel pullout at the bottom of the I-84 Exit 109 onramp in Sherman County. The semi struck an ODOT sign and several large boulders. The driver arranged their own tow, due to the trailer’s damaged break lines, and being stuck on top of the boulders.
A Fish and Wildlife trooper contacted two duck hunters who had been hunting just west of Blackberry Beach, near Cascade Locks, on the Columbia River side. The father and son did not know they were inside Cascade Locks city limits and thought they were hunting in a legal area, as OnX maps showed USFS property. In this case city limits trump USFS. The two were warned and apologized for the violation. Five ducks were seized for donation.
A sergeant observed the driver of an SUV discarding a lit cigarette out of a window. The driver admitted to intentionally discarding it, and was also identified as an out-of-compliant sex offender from another county. They were cited and released.
OSP recovered an unoccupied light gray Toyota Camry previously reported stolen by The Dalles Police. It was found on I-84 near milepost 76 eastbound, and towed.
One injury vehicle crash. Troopers responded to a two-vehicle, blocking crash on Jan. 2. A blue Toyota Camry was southbound on US 197 near milepost 65 during adverse, snowy weather conditions. The Toyota slid into the oncoming lane while navigating a corner, and struck a black Chevy Trailblazer. Both drivers suffered non-life threatening injuries and were transported by ambulance to Madras. Both vehicles were towed.
On Jan. 2, OSP responded to multiple slide-offs and blocking commercial vehicles near milepost 67 on US 97. The road was blocked for several hours around 8 p.m., before the vehicles could be moved and the road reopened. No damage or injuries occurred.
