Commissioner Ron Ihrig listens as Martha Lanman and Alesia Ruchert, Garfield County’s public health administrator and child care navigator, respectively, explain how they’ve gotten to the precipice of opening a new child care facility during their Aug. 25 presentation to the board.

KLICKITAT CO. — During their Aug. 25 workshop session, two representatives from Garfield County, in between Walla Walla and Clarkston out east, gave the board of commissioners a roadmap to realizing a new local child care facility.

“There are so many resources around us, and there’s so much of the community that’s on board,” said Martha Lanman, Garfield County’s public health administrator, in her presentation. “We don’t have to recreate anything; we don’t have to build the bus. It’s already in existence. We just need to take control and get it going.”
