Notable incidents
6 theft reports. Jewelry from residence, two shopliftings, e-bike from Best Western bike rack. And a person was stopped in Odell for a traffic violation, gave a false name and was cited and released for ID theft, false info and no driver’s license.
A Hood River resident reported someone altered a personal check.

Aug. 12, an officer helped a Portland FBI agent with an interview at a Hood River home. The resident was being scammed, and had reported this to the FBI tip line, initiating an FBI investigation.

Oregon State Police, Aug. 15-21
These charges resulted in arrests: DUII (5), drug violations (1), eluding (1), reckless driving (1), warrant (1).
Notable incidents
OSP found a person unconscious in the driver seat of a Toyota Corolla on US-197 in Tygh Valley. The driver was arrested for DUII and troopers found a “large quantity” of methamphetamine, heroin, packaging material and scales in the vehicle. The driver was charged with intent to transfer meth, and possession of usable and commercial quantities of meth and of heroin.
2 non-injury crashes. A commercial truck went down an embankment on US-97, after a bee landed on the driver’s hand. And a 47-year-old driver, annoyed with a 19-year-old driver in the left lane of I-84, passed on the right, clipped their vehicle, caused a crash, and earned a citation.
Burning garbage called in on the shoulder of I-84 near milepost 95 eastbound. Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue put the fire out. Troopers found a bag filled with clothing, towels, vape pen, and inside a pocket, a partially burned wallet with Idaho ID. Investigation ongoing.
Five DUII arrests, three of them in Tygh Valley or Fairgrounds Road.
Alerted to a poached deer, troopers found two carcases on Forest Road 4880, photographed them, and seized a piece of hide. Lead fragments were found in a deer’s head, too.
Aug. 20, troopers stopped a Toyota Prius for an observed violation. The Prius fled and wasn’t pursued; later, county deputies chased it, and The Dalles police spiked the tires, stopping it. Troopers gave the driver a criminal citation for eluding, and county deputies arrested them.
