Charges — June 9-22, Bingen-White Salmon police arrested on person for driving suspended. June 15-21, Hood River police charged people with: Assaulting an officer (one), mischief (one), disorderly conduct (one), DUII (one), eluding (one), hit-and-run (one), resisting (one), theft (two), unlawful use of weapon (one), warrant (two). June 18-25, Oregon State police charged people with disorderly conduct (one), driving suspended (two), drug violation (four), DUII (four), fail to report as sex offender (one), fugitive from other state (one), probation violation (two), reckless driving (three), warrant (one). Other agencies don’t publish arrests.
Roaming goats — Six animal calls reached White Salmon-Bingen police June 9-22: Barking dogs (two calls). Someone found a fawn lying in grass, breathing; they were advised to leave it alone. Goats escaped and ate some brush. An injured deer was dispatched. And an animal bite was reported, but the subject left before officers arrived and refused to give info. Last week, The Dalles logged eight dogs and another animal; Wasco County logged three dogs and two other non-dogs. Klickitat County sheriff’s office also spotted a wandering horse.
Hood River thefts — June 15-21, Hood River made four theft reports: Shoplifting (two), old theft from business, and possible fraudulent use of a credit card which is pending follow-up. In one incident, officers responded to a theft in progress at Walmart on June 15 and lodged the suspect at NORCOR. Another theft reported in White Salmon June 20.
Eluding DUII — When Hood River officers tried to stop a car for running a stop sign, the driver tried to elude; they were lodged on charges of DUII - alcohol, attempt to elude, reckless driving and trespass on June 18.
Pedestrian injured — Hood River officers responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian crash near the Hood River Hotel, in which the pedestrian was seriously injured and transported to a hospital, on June 16.
Multiple charges — Officers responded to a call of someone “screaming and damaging property” at a Hood River business on June 16. The person was lodged on charges of disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, criminal trespass, assault public safety officer, resisting arrest, unlawful use of weapon, and probation violation.
Deaths — A Hood River officer doing a welfare check on Prospect Avenue reported an unattended death June 18. Wasco County logged a death on Eightmile Road on June 18.
Fender benders — A non-injury vehicle crash in White Salmon on June 12. Last week, The Dalles logged eight vehicle crashes on Dry Hollow, W. Sixth Street June 21; E. Second and E. 10th June 22; and W. Sixth on June 23; Union (two) and Kelly Avenue on June 25. Meanwhile, Wasco County logged four crashes.
Drug — The Dalles recorded three drug incidents logged on Mt. Hood (two) and W. Seventh streets last week. Wasco County logged one on Mt. Hood Street, and one at NORCOR.
Five — Mental health calls from The Dalles last week.
The Dalles thefts — Last week, 15 thefts got logged on W. 10th, West Sixth (four), Court, Mt. Hood (two), Chenowith Loop, not logged, E. 11th, E. 12th, Honey Do, E. Third streets. A stolen vehicle was logged from E. Eighth on June 25, and another from the same street on June 26. Four fraud logs and an ID theft log created. And Wasco County added five thefts on W. 10th, Chenowith Creek (three) and Foley Lakes, plus two fraud logs and ID theft.
Prowler — reported on Verdant and W. Sixth streets, and unlawful use of a vehicle on W. Sixth, The Dalles, last week. A prowler was also reported on Chenowith Creek Road on June 25.
Assaults — An assault was reported in The Dalles last week, alongside multiple domestic violence calls. Wasco County generated four sex crime logs, three from the same road; and three assaults.
A burglary — was logged on W. Sixth, The Dalles, on June 21. Another burglary was reported on Highway 30, June 24.
Marine — A marine call was made on June 24 at milepost 70, I-84.
Three injury crashes — reported by Oregon State Police (OSP) last week. An eastbound motorcycle on I-84 struck a semi’s trailer near milepost 76, the 22-year-old rider sustaining serious injuries and four traffic violation citations. Separately, a motorcycle failed to negotiate a curve in Highway 26 in Wheeler County; the driver advised the steering wheel locked up and couldn’t be turned. They were LifeFlighted to a Bend hospital. Thirdly, an erratically driving Toyota hit the median near milepost 89 westbound, and the driver detained while jogging away from the scene and charged with DUII, reckless driving, disorderly conduct and probation violation.
Mississippi forgery — State troopers stopped a F-150 for failure to maintain lane on I-84 near milepost 92 eastbound, and after investigating, arrested the driver for an extradition warrant for forgery out of Mississippi; and arrested the passenger on charges of two warrants and possession of less than 1 gram fentanyl.
Probation — A person was arrested for being out of compliance with a probation travel permit, during a traffic violation vehicle stop in Gilliam County, and also charged with possession of less than 2 grams cocaine.
More drugs — OSP stopped a vehicle for traffic and, searching the vehicle incident to arrest on DUII charges, found two baggies methamphetamine, 1 baggy cocaine, and eight baggies of fentanyl. The driver was charged for the fentanyl and methamphetamine, the passenger for the cocaine.
Outlawed gift — A Chinook was seized after an angler illegally kept, then gave it to a tribal member. Both people got a citation.
Four non-injury crashes — reported by OSP last week. When a Subaru tried a left turn from Sixth Street, The Dalles onto I-84, a Jeep struck its rear tire, causing it to spin. The Jeep stopped in the intersection and the Subaru ended up on the on-ramp to I-84, and got cited for fail to yield right of way. Separately, a cooler flew off an RV on I-84 and crashed into a Toyota Sequoia, causing damage. In other incidents, a BMW swiped a guardrail and a Chevrolet hit a mirror while passing.
Dog neglect — Nine Dogues de Bordeaux dogs were rescued from unsanitary conditions and rehabbed by Oregon Humane Society, The Dalles police announced on June 24. The dogs, “fearful, shutdown, and suffering from injury and illness” after their retrieval, are now “thriving and ready to go home.”
Fires — The quick-moving Panorama Fire burned 2 acres on Mosier Tunnels Access Road the afternoon of June 25, and was 100% contained a few hours later.
Search and rescues — A search and rescue was called in Hood River June 23 for a missing person and dog on Eastside Road. Hood River Crag Rats and Pacific Northwest Search and Rescue responded. The dog returned on its own; later, the 81-year-old person was located safely.
Scam warning — After citizen was nearly scammed by a fake “deputy” calling from a blocked number on June 25, Klickitat County Sheriff’s Office reminded residents that deputies never ask for financial information over the phone. If in doubt, ask for name and badge number, hang up, and call your local non-emergency dispatch number for confirmation of identity.
