Arrests made — From Feb. 3-9, White Salmon police arrested one person on a warrant. From Feb. 2-8, Hood River police charged two with criminal mischief, three with DUII, two with drug law violations, four with theft and three with warrants.
Last week, Feb. 7 - 13, The Dalles police arrested one person without logging specific charges and charged one with driving while suspended, one with DUII, two with drug law violations, two with trespassing and seven with warrants. That week, Oregon State Police also charged four people with DUII, one with reckless driving, one with endangering another, and one with a warrant. Wasco County Sheriff’s Office no longer logs arrests.
Dogs will be dogs — The Dalles dispatch logged ten calls for dogs barking, roaming at large, and standing in the middle of the street. In White Salmon on Feb. 8, a lost dog was returned to its owner.
Walmart is popular — Hood River police logged four thefts. Three were cases of shoplifting at Walmart; the fourth, a cellphone stolen from a shopping cart at Walmart. In one incident, officers responded to a theft in progress at Walmart, and arrested someone on charges of theft and fail to appear.
Vandalism update — Hood River police officers lodged a houseless person at NORCOR for a Multnomah County warrant. They also charged the person with criminal mischief, after learning they were the primary suspect in two separate vandalisms days before. Separately, vandalism was reported at Oak Street Apartments Feb. 2.
Stolen plates — During a traffic stop last week, Hood River officers learned the license plates on the vehicle were reported stolen out of Portland. The Spokane, Washington, driver admitted the theft. The plates were seized and the report forwarded to Portland police for follow-up.
Driving intoxicated — Hood River police charged three people with DUII last week. In one, a 19-year-old driver was detained for DUII, and marijuana found in their vehicle.
In one of OSP’s four DUII arrests, a trooper spotted a freshly-damaged vehicle stopped in the lane at Webber and Sixth on Feb. 9. The trooper was transporting a person in custody; Wasco County deputies found the vehicle driving off with a flat tire, and stopped it. The trooper returned and the driver was arrested a DUII - controlled substance charge. A search warrant was granted for samples of their blood. Separately, a blue Subaru Outback drove west down the eastbound lanes of I-84, near Cascade Locks. A trooper stopped it at milepost 58 eastbound, and arrested the 29-year-old driver on three charges.
Scam — Hood River police got one report of identity theft last week. The Dalles received two reports of fraud: In one instance, $10,000 was lost.
Burglary — A garage lock was broken, tools and items stolen, a Laughlin Street resident reported Feb. 7. Wasco County dispatch also logged two burglaries, one on Sixth Street reported Feb. 10. Another, in Pioneer Street, was reported Feb. 11.
Tools, cash and egged cars — Five thefts were reported in The Dalles last week, Feb. 7 - 13: Wallet and $4,000 cash stolen from car on 12th Street, old unspecified theft, and a tip jar from Federal Street. Someone also broke into a work van on 13th and took various tools and items, worth about $3,000. And someone reported a stolen bicycle, and egged vehicles, on 12th Street on Feb. 8.
Fined for vending — Two merchants on Sixth Street, The Dalles, were fined $250 for selling honey and oranges, respectively, without a vendor’s license on Feb. 9.
Just the one — Once again, The Dalles dispatch received just one mental health related call instead of dozens.
Bullard, pickup, guardrails dented, but no people — OSP reported three non-injury crashes. On Feb. 10, a semi-truck and trailer struck a bullard in the Pilot Travel Center lot in Biggs, backed up and hit an empty pickup. The driver was cited. Separately, while an eastbound Subaru was passing a commercial truck on I-84 Feb. 10, the commercial truck changed lanes and swiped it, doing extensive damage to the entire right side. The commercial did not stop, and could not be located. Thirdly, a Toyota Tundra left the fast lane of I-84 and swiped guardrail near milepost 96 eastbound on Feb. 12.
Other crashes — The Dalles officers also took a report for just one crash, though a few minor fender-benders were also logged. One driver was cited for no insurance after a vehicle crash on Seventh. Wasco County dispatch logged two, on Browns Creek and Cherry Heights, both on Feb. 7. And no crashes were logged in Hood River Feb. 2 - 8.
Driver dies — After a Subaru left its lane on Highway 35 for unknown reasons, colliding with a rock wall, the driver was found deceased by witnesses in the afternoon of Feb. 12. The crash happened near milepost 74 northbound. OSP responded, and notified next of kin about the death of the 64-year-old Hood River resident.
