Arrests — March 23-29, Hood River police charged people with DUII (four), drug law violation (one), failure to register as sex offender (one), harassment (one), theft (one), trespass (four), warrant (three). March 28 to April 4, The Dalles police charged people with Assault (one), carrying concealed weapon (one), disorderly conduct (two), drug law violation (one), DUII (two), harassment (two), menacing (one), restraining order violation (one), strangulation (one), theft (one), trespass (two), warrant (seven). Oregon State Police charged people with driving while suspended or revoked (one), drug law violation (one), DUII (four), failure to report as sex offender (one), reckless driving (two).
White Salmon-Bingen police recorded one arrest for March 24 - 30.
Wasco County Sheriff’s Office does not log arrests.
See you later — In one of Hood River police’s four DUII arrests, an officer charged an Oregon driver with DUII - alcohol. The driver was cited and released to a friend. Later the same day, during a traffic stop, an officer arrested the same person on the same charge.
Possession of drugs — Officers arrested and lodged a houseless person for failure to register as a sex offender last week, also charging them with possession of methamphetamine after finding a pipe with residue.
Lonely deer — The Dalles police recorded 18 animal calls last week. Dogs at large, missing, in car; puppy with broken leg, fostered by officer; cat got into house, cats escaped. In one case, logs noted “There is a deer that is all by itself heading toward city park.” A search and seizure warrant for a dog on Eighth Street was performed on March 31. Wasco County Sheriff’s Office also logged four animal calls.
Residue retrieval — A reporting party found a baggie of white powder, possibly drugs, on Second Street in The Dalles, which an officer seized for destruction. Separately, a needle was retrieved from Sixth Street; and a pipe with marijuana residue from Bridge Street at W. 11th.
Tools and tips — The Dalles police took eight theft reports last week: Tools from car on Eighth, shoplifting, tools from work trailer on Sixteenth, vehicle, tools from shed on Twelfth Street, ten dollars from a tip jar on Second, tools from pickup on Cherry Heights, tools from work utility trailer from E. 14th at Jefferson. WCSO also logged two theft incidents.
Ax threat — Seven people were arrested on warrants by The Dalles police last week. One was also charged with unlawful possession of methamphetamine. Another was additionally charged with menacing, after allegedly threatening a reporting party’s child with an ax on 11th.
Knuckles not allowed — A person was arrested at Second and Lincoln on April 1 on charges of criminal trespass I, theft II, and carrying a concealed weapon — a pair of brass knuckles.
Too much meth — OSP made four DUII arrests last week. In one, a trooper stopped an Appleton, Washington resident for speeding 88 mph on I-84 and ultimately arrested them for DUII. Separately, a Buick almost hit a Ford, ran over traffic cones and lane control markers, sideswiped a U-Haul and continued west down I-84 until a trooper stopped and arrested the driver at Biggs Junction. In a third incident, troopers stopped a Nissan for a lane violation on I-84, arrested the driver for DUII, and found over 10 grams of suspected methamphetamine in the vehicle.
Crashes — A pickup was towing a Subaru wagon down I-84 on March 29, when the Subaru slid off the trailer — which lacked the proper fastenings — near westbound milepost 68. A state trooper cited the driver for multiple violations. The same week, WCSO reported two crashes on Discovery Drive and Road 2711.
Toll Bridge trouble — Two vehicles crashed at Exit 64 and Button Bridge Road on March 27. One of the drivers noted pain, but declined medics; one vehicle was towed. Another vehicle crashed on the Hood River Toll Bridge on March 28, but caused no injuries.
Little big game — While parked on Forest Service Road 27 last week, a state fish and wildlife trooper spotted a hunter returning with a silver gray squirrel. The squirrel was seized as evidence, and the hunter cited for taking big game during a closed season.
