Patrick Mulvihill joins News staff

He joins editor Kirby Neumann-Rea, and reporters Ben Mitchell and Trisha Walker in the newsroom. (Lapierre took photos and handled sports, which Mitchell is now coordinating.).

Mulvihill attended Hermiston High School, class of 2011, and graduated from University of Oregon in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in journalism.

Mulvihill served as reporter intern for the East Oregonian, in Pendleton, from June to September 2013 and June to September 2014, where he wrote front page features and covered breaking news, arts, education, crime, city politics, and sports, as well as features for the paper’s annual Western magazine, Pendleton Round Up.

Patrick also served as fiction editor for the Unbound Literary Arts magazine at UO, and was board operator for KOHU/KQFM radio from 2008-12.

His most recent work was as communications intern for the Oregon Education Investment Board, where he worked with communications director Kristen Gimbel.

“Patrick comes to us with a wide range of skills and interests, a solid reporting background, and the ability to jump right in,” editor Kirby Neumann-Rea said.

Lapierre, who served the Hood River News for six years, is now on staff with Slingshot, a Hood River gear company. He’s still in the community and his photos will continue to appear in Hood River News and related publications, as well as The Gorge Magazine, based at Hood River News.
