To the residents of the Hood River Valley: Thank you to everyone who participated in the May 19 election. We are deeply grateful for your engagement, your voices, and your commitment to the future of parks and recreation in our community.
The board recognizes that the election outcome does not reflect every voter’s preference. We value the perspectives shared throughout this process, and we remain committed to listening, learning, and serving the whole community as the work ahead to rebuild the pool begins.
With the passage of both the bond and the levy voter measures, we are shifting our work to implementation. As we move forward with the Aquatic Center rebuild and work to improve our operations, we are committed to transparency, accountability, and clear communication.
Our next steps include hiring an Owner’s Representative. The Owner’s Representative will serve as the district’s advocate on the Aquatic Center rebuild project. They will help to coordinate designers and contractors, manage the budget and schedule, and ensure the project is delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with public requirements.
We are recruiting volunteers through July 31 for two groups: the Advisory Council and the Oversight Committee. The Advisory Council will provide input to the district board and staff on key issues related to parks, trails, facilities, recreational services, and funding. The Oversight Committee will monitor the voter-approved public funds to ensure transparency, accountability, and legal compliance.
