Thousand-Year-Old Redwoods, Pizza near the Russian River, Plus the Beach and Seafood in Bodega Bay

A trip to Northern California would not be complete without visiting its awe-inspiring redwoods. In Guerneville, you can find the Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve, an 805-acre grove of redwoods (aka Sequoia sempervirens) that are over 1,400 years old.

A Midcentury Modern Escape, Apple Cannery Turned Shopping District, and True Artistry

The Flamingo Resort & Spa in Santa Rosa, CA, is an iconic midcentury modern establishment that honors its retro roots. Here, you feel like you’re stepping into the glamorous nostalgia of this rehabilitated historic property, originally opened in 1957.

After a $20M renovation in 2021 and joining the Tapestry Collection by Hilton in April 2025, the Flamingo Hotel strikes the perfect balance of modern comfort and historic personality. It even has its original neon Flamingo sign, which the City of Santa Rosa designated as a local landmark in 1991.

This hotel has maintained its original spoke-and-wheel design, with the rooms all surrounding the pool in the center courtyard. When she founded artXcursion, she set out to challenge the assumptions people make about disabilities. Tillman shared, “I’m a business owner. Yes, I’m differently abled. I’m a woman. I’m all of those things.” She further noted, “When I paint, I want people to appreciate the art for what it is, and not just the way that I do it… It might be interesting for others that I paint with my mouth, but I don’t think that’s the big picture, really.”

Tillman has developed her artistic career working in galleries as an assistant curator, hosting several solo shows, and accepting art residencies. Her art spans from abstract to impressionist and captures the natural world, exploring the multitude of colors, shades, and shifting light of the dynamic landscapes of Northern California.
