BUTTE, Mont. – The Mother Lode Theatre in Butte is looking to its future and has released asurveyto gather community input on its upcoming plans.
The theatre, which celebrated its 100th birthday last year, is managed by theButte Center for Performing Arts.JocelynDodge, president of theorganization, spoke about their intentions.
"We're really looking toward the next 100 years. You know, what type of programming does the community in the surrounding area in Southwest Montana want to see? Looking at various renovations that we need to do," said Dodge.
The building last underwent major renovations in the early 1990s. Dodge explained the areas they are considering for updates.
"Things like the carpets, lights, looking at the things that you don't see, which may be plumbing, electricity, looking at the outside facade.So,there'sa whole host of things thatwe'llbe looking at," said Dodge.
Future programming is a significant focus of the project. Currently, the theatre hosts the Orphan Girl Children's Theatre, Butte Symphony, and the Butte Community Concert Series. Dodge emphasized the importance of catering to the community's interests.
"Whether it's performances for young kids, for instance, we've got Sesame Street Elmo coming. Whether people want more music,ordopeople want to have a place to dance? Do we want to see more localplays...we want to knowwhat's important to the community," said Dodge.
Dodge highlighted the theatre's significance to Montana's history.
The Mother Lode is one of a small handful of historic theatres left in Montana, Dodge said.
“Andit's iconicbecause of the era of Butte. You know, Butte at one point had 11 theatersduring its heyday in the 20s.So, being able to sustain that and carry on that legacy, I think is really important for our community," said Dodge.
