HOOD RIVER — Line 29 Architecture has withdrawn its appeal of a proposed downtown hotel.
The appeal was slated to go before city council April 13; the appeal was withdrawn April 9, said Director of Planning & Zoning Dustin Nilsen.
As previously reported, the planning commission denied Line 29’s application for a 135-room Marriott hotel on the former Hood River News site in a in a 3-2 vote Jan. 5 because it was deemed incompatible with the surrounding area.
“By withdrawing the appeal, we gain the time needed to work with our neighbors to better understand and address their feedback while partnering with local architects to refine the design for a new hotel application,” said the 419 State Street project team in a statement. “Simultaneously, our team continues to advance plans for a condominium development for the site.”
Condos could be next
As previously reported, Line 29 hosted a neighborhood information meeting on March 26 to discuss a condominium development as a second option. This development would largely offer high-income condominiums and, as a residential use, wouldn’t be subject to public review or the same compatibility requirements. A rendering shows the structure would be two buildings instead of one and up to 10 feet taller. More information on this option can be found at 419statestreet.com/condos.
Nilsen said the permit or land use process would restart if the developer and/or property owner decides to proceed with a new application or proposal.
