THE DALLES — The Dalles/Dufur High School (TDHS) softball team split two non-league games last week, losing to Pendleton High School, 5-4, on April 7 at home and then beating Gorge rival Hood River Valley High School (HRVHS), 14-1, on April 9 in Hood River.
The Riverhawks (9-2) took charge early against the Buckaroos (7-4), taking a 2-1 lead after the first inning. The Dalles added on to their lead throughout the game, scoring runs in the third and sixth innings to push the lead to 4-1, heading into the top of the seventh inning.
But Pendleton scored four runs in the top of the seventh to take the come-from-behind win.
Two days later the Riverhawks handled the Eagles (1-9), 14-1, in a dominant showing, all around. The Dalles got going early from the plate, racking up seven runs in the second inning and two in the third to take a 9-1 lead. The Riverhawks then rattled off five more runs in the fifth inning to push the lead to 14-1 and enact the 10-run advantage mercy rule.
This week, The Dalles will hit the road for a non-league game against Stayton High School at 4 p.m. on April 15. Then, the Riverhawks will play two home non-league games at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on April 18 against Marshfield High School and Junction City High School as part of the East-West Mini Tournament hosted by TDHS at 16th St. Ball Park in The Dalles.
