Know what on earth this... festival of injury infrastructure... is about? Please let Martin Gibson know at 541-993-1801 or florag@gorgenews.com and we’ll publish whatever answers we get next week. Happy fact-hunting!

Last week’s image of a frozen Columbia near Cascade Locks  was identified by Peter Harman, who noted it’s looking across the river from Cascade Locks after Bonneville Dam was built, and that the river froze enough to halt navigation at The Dalles in 1948-49; Gary Elkinton, who recognized the Cascade Locks, once used by ships to bypass rapids; Dick Smith; Linda Zimmer, who remembered 1954-55 freezes: “When I was a little girl, I remember grandma would have me go to the kitchen window and she would show me the boats cutting the ice on the river. [The Dalles] This was before the dam was built. I could barely look out the window so I was probably around 4 or 5 years old.”
