HOOD RIVER — Investigators arrested a 16-year-old Hood River resident on Jan. 28 in connection with the fatal shooting of Yahir Castillo-Alvarez. A second suspect is still at large.
On Jan. 17, officers responded to the area of 1695 Oak Street after multiple reports of gunshots. They found Castillo-Alvarez suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to the Providence Hood River Hospital.
Despite life-saving efforts from medical personnel, Castill-Alvarez later died from his injuries. He was 21.
The juvenile arrested on Jan. 28 is being held at NORCOR on charges of second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, menacing with firearm, unlawful possession of firearm, reckless endangering, disorderly conduct, and a probation violation.
Police are asking for the public’s help in finding a second suspect, Noel Hernandez, 30, also of Hood River. Hernandez is wanted on charges of second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter.

“The Hood River Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Mr. Castillo-Alvarez during this incredibly difficult time. Our thoughts are with them and all those affected by this tragic incident,” Police Chief Neal Holste said in a press release.
The Columbia Gorge Major Crimes Team is investigating; it includes HRPD, Hood River and Wasco County sheriff’s offices, The Dalles Police, and Oregon State Police.
