Advocates and lawmakers in Oregon have introduced bills to allow judges to reduce a sentence based on how coercion and abuse played a role in the crime these laws in three legislative sessions, but political opposition stopped them from moving forward.
(The Center Square) – The Minnesotan convicted of attacking lawmakers last year, killing House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, will spend the rest of his life in prison.
A Payette County grand jury has indicted former Payette resident Andrea Shaw, 23, on two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of her 18-month-old twins. Shaw was arrested June 30 in Boise without incident and is awaiting extradition to Payette County, where she will be arraigned.

(The Center Square) – Fve fugitives have been arrested in New England sanctuary jurisdictions within the past few weeks who are wanted for murder or homicide in their home countries.
HOOD RIVER — Investigators arrested a 16-year-old Hood River resident on Jan. 28, in connection with the fatal shooting of Yahir Castillo-Alvarez two weeks pasts. A second suspect is still at large.
