NEW PLYMOUTH — A 19-year-old Nampa man was arrested on a first-degree murder charge after his stepfather was fatally shot Friday evening in New Plymouth, according to the Payette County Sheriff’s Office.
Michael Dudley was taken into custody at the scene and booked into the Payette County Jail.
Deputies responded about 7:30 p.m. after a resident of a home on Southwest Fourth Avenue near Adams Road called 911 to report a shooting. Officers from the Payette and Fruitland police departments, New Plymouth Fire Department and Payette County Paramedics also responded.
Emergency responders attempted lifesaving measures on Howard Schofield IV, 47, but he died at the scene. The sheriff’s office identified Schofield as Dudley’s stepfather.
Schofield’s next of kin were notified Friday. The Payette County Coroner’s Office will order an autopsy.
The person who called 911 was not physically injured, and initial information indicates no one else was hurt, according to the sheriff’s office.
Authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the public and no known outstanding suspects or persons of interest.
The Idaho State Police Forensic Services crime lab, Payette County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and Payette County Coroner’s Office assisted at the scene.
The sheriff’s office is leading the ongoing investigation.

Dudley's initial court experience took place on Sept. 21. He is being charged with murder in the first degree and burglary.Â
Dudley is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. This is a developing story and more information will be added online as it becomes available.
