Eagles Speech and Debate flying in run-up to State

HOOD RIVER — Hood River Valley High School placed highly at the Ryen Rutledge Speech and Debate tournament at Reynolds High School on February 14, against 28 schools, as they have throughout the season. While many from the team competed in-person in Troutdale, sophomore Rylee Smith was online, competing in Congressional Debate for the district National Qualifier Event, and took 2nd place, qualifying for Nationals.

Other notable achievements include senior Fatima Banuelos, who placed 1st in Poetry, and Program Oral Interpretation; freshmen Sofia Mosqueda and Emily Fry, who took 2nd place in Duo Interpretation; freshman Emily Fry scoring 3rd in Novice Dramatic Interpretation; and senior Julyssa Jiron and junior Madison Clark who were finalists on Poetry and Prose respectively.
