According to the National Survey of Children’s Health, ADHD, or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, is one of the most common neurobehavioral disorders in children and affects 11 percent of school-aged children in the United States — nearly 6.4 million.
Decoding Dyslexia Oregon-Columbia Gorge will help parents and educators learn more about this multi-faceted medical condition at its next event, “ADHD 101,” presented by Bridget T. O’Boyle-Jordan, MSN, CPNP. O’Boyle-Jordan will describe what ADHD is and what it isn’t, its symptoms and how it impacts children both inside the classroom and out, as well as cover basic facts about this medical condition. She will provide an overview of treatment and how ADHD can be successfully managed — both behavioral and classroom management treatments will be discussed, as well as highlights on medication therapies. A time for Q & A will be available at the conclusion of the lecture.
Prior to joining Sundstrom Clinical Services (SCS) in Clackamas, O’Boyle-Jordan worked for seven years as a pediatric nurse practitioner at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU). She is currently a pediatric nurse practitioner with SCS and works directly with children diagnosed with ADHD, Tourette’s Disorder, and related behavioral disorders. O’Boyle-Jordan participates in multidisciplinary assessments and provides evaluations, as well as case and medical management. She has a strong interest in helping educate families, teachers, and the community at large about ADHD.
Columbia Gorge Chapter of Decoding Dyslexia Oregon hosts O’Boyle-Jordan at Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital, 810 12th St., on Tuesday, March 15 at 6:30 pm. Social hour begins at 6 p.m. A $5 donation is suggested.
