WHITE SALMON — The Columbia High School (CHS) softball team picked up two Trico League wins last week, 19-2 at Fort Vancouver High School on May 5 and 14-0 at home against the Trappers on May 7.
The Bruins (13-7, 10-4 Trico) out-hit the Trappers (3-13, 1-13 Trico) 20-3 in a dominant showing on the road in Vancouver. On the mound, freshman Gabby Hogue and sophomore Lola Marti combined to allow six hits and two runs.
It was senior night for the Bruins against the Trappers in White Salmon. Seniors Halle Kock and Madison Russum were highlighted in what was another dominant showing for CHS.
“Madison stepped on the mound to pitch for the first time in her career, holding Fort to zero runs in the inning,” said Bruins head Coach Jesse Bryan. “Halle smashed the ball like normal, and freshman Gabby Hogue hit her first-ever home run. Great way to celebrate our seniors and our last home game of the season.”
Rossum got the start in the circle for CHS for one inning, giving up one hit and no runs, while Kock went 4-4 at the plate with four RBI on the day in what was their final home game as Bruins.
Next up, CHS faces La Center High School in the District 4 1A Fastpitch Softball Tournament on May 15 at 9 a.m. in Centralia. The winner plays Seton Catholic that same day at 1 p.m. with the district championship game scheduled for May 16 at 3 p.m.
Boys soccer
As for the Bruins boys soccer team, they went 1-1 headed into the postseason with a 1-0 loss at King’s Way Christian on May 5 and a 4-0 win against Winlock High School on May 6 for senior night.
The Bruins (13-3-1, 13-3 Trico) honored their 13 seniors against the Winlock Cardinals (5-11, 5-11 Trico), in what was a dominant effort. Seniors for Columbia include: Ricardo Navarrete Cortez, Ries Stageberg, Juan Santoyo-Luna, Humberto Pulido Jr., Matthew Carrillo, Quinn Harty, Manuel Barajas Victorio, Matt Miller, Estiven Hernandez Pena and Christian Vargas.
Next up, the Bruins host a District 4 1A Boys Soccer Tournament game on May 12 at 6 p.m. against Montesano High School.
