Historic Trail Tour

Oregon Department of Transportation officials provided the tour on abandoned sections of the old Highway 30. The trail generally parallels the freeway, and work on the viaduct and bench cut sections of the trail are active construction zones along Interstate 84. Shown are cycling advocate Megan Ramey, center, County Commissioner Rich McBride, left, and Hood River Chamber Board President Janet Davis, right, on the section known as Lindsey Creek bench cut during the Aug. 15 tour. When complete in 2019, the new section will expand cyclist and pedestrian access between Wyeth and Lindsey Creek. Crews are creating a trail around Shellrock Mountain on top of the existing wall, the 500-foot Summit Creek Viaduct (bridge over land), and Lindsey Creek Bench Cut. Part of the tour included the “Mossy Road” section out of view of the freeway, which until two years ago was overgrown for decades and is being restored as part of the trail.
