HOOD RIVER — Hood River City Council’s July 27 meeting began with a proclamation declaring Aug. 2-8 as City Farmers Market Week in honor of Gorge Grown Food Network’s 20th anniversary.

Farmers Market Operations Director Hannah Nanda said the Hood River market began in 2006 with nine vendors. Now, the market hosts more than 65 vendors each week during peak season, supports more than 100 vendor businesses annually, and generates more than $1.5 million for the local economy each year.
