HOOD RIVER — Columbia Gorge Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) is inviting community members to take action for some of the region’s most vulnerable children by attending two upcoming events focused on awareness, connection, and volunteer recruitment.
With child advocacy needs continuing to be high, the local nonprofit is sounding a clear call for support.
“We anticipate serving more than 100 children this fiscal year — the highest number in recent years,” said Executive Director Christopher Janetzko. “Even so, there are still around 20 children on our waitlist that could benefit from having a dedicated advocate by their side.”
To meet this need for volunteer advocates, Columbia Gorge CASA is hosting two upcoming events designed to inform, inspire, and welcome new volunteers:
• CASA 101 Information Session, May 12 from 5:30–6:30 p.m. at Ferment Brewing (upstairs brew hall), Hood River. Community members are invited to enjoy light appetizers and a beverage while learning about the CASA’s mission and how to get involved. Refreshments begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by a brief presentation at 5:45 p.m. and time for questions and conversation afterward.
• Ribbon Cutting & CASA 101, June 4 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Copper West building, The Dalles. Celebrate the opening of Columbia Gorge CASA’s new satellite office while connecting with current advocates and learning how to make a difference. The event will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony, meet-and-greet with current volunteers, and a CASA 101 informational session, along with appetizers.
