Newby named Northwest Conference scholar athlete for 2025-26

THE DALLES — The Northwest Conference (NWC) office announced the annual NWC Scholar Athletes list, which named  220 student-athletes from Linfield University as honorees. Sydney Newby, an exercise science major and a 2025 graduate of The Dalles High School, was among those honored.

The NWC Scholar Athlete honor is given to student-athletes of NWC institutions who maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher at the end of the academic year and have participated in the varsity season.

Newby participated as a member of the women’s basketball team throughout the 2025-26 academic year.

During her time as a basketball player in The Dalles, Newby set the school’s all-time scoring record and helped lead the Riverhawks to a second-place finish in the Tri Valley Conference and an OSAA Class 4A state playoff berth during her senior year.
