HOOD RIVER — After August’s virtual meetings, with personnel reports the only item on the agenda, Hood River County School District (HRCSD) board members met in person at the Nathaniel Coe Administration Center on Sept. 9 (see related story A3).
Superintendent Bill Newton began by recognizing the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks and thanking first responders, including local police, fire and emergency services “who keep our schools safe, and reaffirm our district’s commitment to building a unified, compassionate community.”
Introducing Synergy
Newton also highlighted the rollout of the district’s new student information system, Synergy, an app that allows parents and guardians to track attendance and, for secondary students, view grades and assignments in real time.
Students were back in school the week before Labor Day.
Hispanic Heritage Month recognition
Board members unanimously passed a resolution recognizing Sept. 15-Oct. 15 as Hispanic Heritage Month, as presented by Board Chair David Stuben.
More than 43% of HRCSD’s enrolled students and 20% of employees identify as Hispanic and/or Latino.
As previously reported, White Salmon Valley School District passed a similar resolution at their Aug. 27 board meeting.
