Hood River sophomore Abraham Tinajero won the 195-pound boys wrestling Intermountain Conference championship Saturday at Redmond High School.
Tinajero had byes in the first two rounds then won his semifinal match by fall in 28 seconds over William Witcraft of Redmond. Tinajero caught Redmond’s Kenyth Kettle early in the championship match and won by fall in 24 seconds to win the title.
Utilizing their No. 2 ranked offense, the Big Sky League Champion Dufur Rangers are hoping that this will help them achieve their goal of winning the Oregon Class 1A boys basketball state championship.
The South Wasco County High girls basketball team advanced to the 16-team, 1A state playoffs this week at Baker High School. The Redsides played the North Douglas High Warriors (7-0) in a first-round playoff game Monday at Powder Valley High School (results came after the printed edition deadline).
The Dalles High Riverhawk boys basketball team went into the Intermountain Conference district playoffs with the momentum of a two-game winning streak and were hoping to extend the streak to three with a victory over the Ridgeview High Ravens.
Hopes for, first, a co-Intermountain Conference championship, and then a first-round playoff bye, were dashed last week when the Hood River Valley boys basketball team dropped successive road games at Redmond and Crook County. The losses left the Eagles in third place in the final regular season standings and a home playoff date against Pendleton on Monday (result came after the printed edition deadline).
