DUII op — A four-hour operation by The Dalles police, Oregon State Police and Wasco deputies on the evening of Dec. 19 ended in two arrests, 10 citations, 40 warnings, 56 traffic stops for DUII.
Drone goes up — The Dalles Police flew a drone for seven minutes late Dec. 19, looking for some persons who damaged a car on W. 10th. “We found them because they came back to the scene,” Captain Jamie Carrico said. “I think a couple got away.” Officers flew the drone 13 times this year, ranging from search and rescue missions, search warrants, checking storm damage at The Dalles’ water treatment plant, and chasing suspects. Weather can make it had to fly the drone.
Attempted assault charge — Dec. 23, a driving complaint of a Ford Escape going 90 mph down I-84 in Cascade Locks, weaving and swerving across lanes. The next call: a non-injury crash, and the Ford’s driver skedaddling. OSP found the male at milepost 53 eastbound, yelling and running away. A tribal officer who stopped saw them raise a knife at them before running on. He was followed two miles till more officers came. They stopped; the male raised a screwdriver and, despite orders to drop it, swung it at an officer. He was tazed and handcuffed, attempted to bite the tribal officer; taken to a hospital for evaluation; lodged on reckless driving, attempted assault on public safety officer and disorderly conduct charges.
Mental hold — Dec. 22, OSP, Wasco and Sherman deputies went to a disabled vehicle on I-84. The driver had no battery power, no gas. Troopers had met them twice the that day. Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue checked the driver’s condition. They were hospitalized on a police officer hold.
Meth arrest — Dec. 21, a state trooper spotted a stolen car on I-84, followed it to a store on Second/Webber The Dalles, and arrested both male occupants after seeing them walking away in security footage. In the car were more more than 10 grams methamphetamine, scales and packaging material; the driver had a warrant. Both were lodged for unauthorized use of vehicle, possession of methamphetamine, delivery of methamphetamine and possession of burglary tools, and the driver on ID theft charge as well.
Injury crash — A driver struck an abandoned car on I-84, milepost 87 westbound, closing the freeway and suffering minor injuries plus a citation for careless driving.
DUII — State police arrested three: Dec. 20, car sailed through stop sign into a utility pole. Driver charged with DUII, reckless driving and endangering the passenger stuck in the front seat. Meanwhile The Dalles logged six DUIIs, including a hit-and-run on Floral Court on Dec. 19. Hood River arrested two: in one, officers and EMS went to a possible medical emergency in a Taco Bell drive-thru, to find the driver actually quite intoxicated.
Non-injury crashes — State police had three; Dec. 20, a driver served for a deer on Highway 30 and struck a large rock head-on. The pregnant driver had a nationwide active warrant, but it was the trooper’s decision whether to arrest; he didn’t, just left the warrant active. Hood River had three; one car stopped for a walker at Second Street and Cascade Avenue, getting rear-ended. Wasco County logged three crashes, The Dalles one on I-84.
Charges — Dec. 19-23, OSP charged folks with assault (one), disorderly conduct (one), drug violations (two), DUII (two), false info (one), ID theft (one), possessing burglary tools (two), reckless endangering (one), reckless driving (two), UUMV (one), warrant (four). Dec. 14-20, Hood River charged people with assault (one), DUII (two), mischief (one), theft (two), trespass (one), warrant (one).
Angling — A trooper checking anglers at Taylor Lake Dec. 19 found one with no angling license and also a warrant, and arrested them. Charge of false information referred to district attorney.
Stats — Wasco County logged two domestic violence calls, and The Dalles one domestic incident and an assault. Hood River had two assaults: Altercation of two juveniles in a work group, and a male arrested Dec. 19 for assaulting an officer, criminal mischief and trespass.
Mental health — Wasco County logged two mental health calls and death by suicide. The Dalles logged a suicide death and two mental health calls.
Thefts — Wasco logged a theft on Ward Road; The Dalles nine theft calls, including five from W. Sixth. Hood River’s three thefts were all shoplifting at Safeway and Walmart; Dec. 16, two people were cited at Walmart (one also had a warrant).
Criminal mischief — Two reports from Hood River. On Dec. 14, several vehicles between the 800 and 1200 blocks of State Street had tires slashed.
