WHITE SALMON — Columbia High’s girls track and field team won a four-team WIAA Class 1A Trico League meet April 16 in White Salmon.
The meet, which also included OSAA Class 1A Glenwood, pitted the Bruins against Castle Rock, La Center and Stevenson. The Bruins scored 54 points, La Center was second with 46, Stevenson had 45, and Castle Rock 31.
The meet featured the 1-2 finish by Columbia’s Hailey Tolbert and Mariela Casarez in the 100 meter hurdles, and the 1-2-3 finish by Saylor Hauge, Tolbert and Sequoia Cohen in the 300 hurdles. The latter race saw the top three runners record personal records of 48.07, 54.41, and 55.22, respectively.
Junior Sara Miller won the 100 and 200 for Columbia, and teammate Lilah Zimmerman won the 1600 in 5 minutes, 45.81 seconds. Of note was senior Helen Hoskins’ runner-up finish in the 1500 (5:50.50 PR) and her PR 2:43.41 in the 800. Miller anchored the Bruins’ first-place 4x100 relay along with Casarez, Hauge, and Willow Cohen (51.64).
In field events, Samantha Evans cleared 5-2 in the high jump and added a PR 14-5 mark in the long jump. Evans has the top WIAA 1A girls high jump mark this season at 5-3.
The Columbia boys were led on the track by Nathen Breedlove, Graham Beck, and Hunter Wang. Breedlove won the 400 in a personal best 55.54. Beck added PRs in the 100 (11.11.82) and 200 (23.86). That’s the second straight week Beck has lowered his time in the 200. Wang was second in the 300 hurdles in a personal best 46.02.
Horizontal jumper Garrett Koch won the triple jump at 36-10 and was second in the long jump at 18-0 to lead the Bruins in the field. Teammate Ezekiel Wilson Ramirez threw the shot put 36-6 and the discus a season best 112-4.
