WHITE SALMON — The Columbia High Bruins (9-5 Trico, 12-7 overall) clinched a tie for third place in the WIAA Class 1A Trico League girls basketball standings following a 56-36 home win Feb. 6 on senior night over the Stevenson High Bulldogs (4-10 Trico, 5-15 overall).
In a pregame ceremony, senior Sheyenne Antis was honored for her contributions to the Bruin basketball program. Then Columbia jumped in front 12-3 after the first quarter and was never threatened again by the Bulldogs.
Halle Koch (18 points, eight rebounds, eight steals) and Sara Miller (17 points, nine rebounds, four assists) led the Bruin offense.
In their final regular season road game on Feb. 4, the Bruins lost, 51-49, to the Castle Rock High Rockets (5-9 Trico, 8-12 overall). The Rockets jumped in front 21-8 after the first quarter and the Bruins played catch-up the remainder of the contest. They outscored the Rockets, 17-12, in the fourth, but their comeback effort fell short.
Three players scored in double figures, including Miller (13 points), Koch (12) and Madison Russum (11). Joella Posini had 22 rebounds for Columbia.
The Bruins qualified for the eight-team, double-elimination District 4 Tournament, Feb. 12-22. The Bruins play a first-round road matchup Feb. 12 at Hoquiam (6-2 Evergreen League, 12-6 overall). The Bruins will play a second-round contest on Feb. 18 versus a yet-to-be-determined opponent.
