Hood River Valley High School’s annual Community Work Day was back April 27 with a new name — Community and Campus Pride Work Day, said Wendy Herman, Hood River Valley High School SUMMIT Career Center.

Overall, 380 students participated, with 70 on HRVHS grounds, working to beautify the school. While students worked from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the HRVHS wrestling team continued with highway cleanup from 5:45-7:45 p.m. Students, like junior Owen Ramsey, left, could also be found at businesses like Cascade Pet Camp, helping with spring cleaning for a $50 fee, or at nonprofits like the FISH Food Bank Garden for free. Above, left to right, sophomore Patty Orozco, senior Jackie Hernandez, senior Michelle Garibo and sister sophomore Evelyn Garibo, and senior Janet Alvarado were part of a team of 20 pulling weeds to get the garden ready for the coming season. Money raised this year — over $13,000 — will go towards a new name/reader board for the high school in conjunction with the Booster Club. Those who hired students are asked to send checks to HRVHS, 1220 Indian Creek Road, Hood River, OR 97031; make checks payable to HRVHS/CWD, with the students’ names in the memo line.
