PORTLAND, ORE. (UPI) — Ma Anand Sheela, the former personal secretary to Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, faces new charges of poisoning two Wasco County officials and burning a county office, the Oregonian newspaper reported today.
The paper said secret indictments by a special Wasco County grand jury were sent more than a week ago to West Germany, where Sheela has been held pending extradition on a charge of attempting to kill Swami Devaraj, the guru’s personal physician.
One of the new indictments charged Sheela and Ma Anand Puja, former official of the Rajneesh Medical Corp., with criminal conspiracy and first-degree assault in an illness suffered by Wasco County Judge William Hulse last year, the paper reported.
Another indictment accused both women of criminal conspiracy and second-degree assault in an illness suffered by County Commissioner Ray Matthew at the same time. Hulse and Matthew became ill just after they made an inspection visit to Rajneeshpuram in September 1984.
