Over the holidays the Incredibowls (Rod Pratt, Yoyo Cervantes, and Matt Stoneberg) won the first half of the rip-roaring Thursday afternoon County league at Orchard Lanes, Hood River’s venerable ten-pin bowling palace up on the Heights. Hats off to The Incredibowls team, who are the high powered top team in the league, the cream of the crop. In most battles, power usually prevails, and it was true to form in this final key match of the first half that ultimately decided the first half winner.
Incredibowls split this match 2-2 with Split Happens. How’s that for an appropriate ending, you just can’t make this stuff up! Two wins apiece for each of these teams. This key match saw the combatants roll some mighty big numbers. The Incredibowls main man Rod Pratt tossed a timely 633 series and teammate Yoyo Cervantes showed up ready to play with a big-time 235 game and 599 set, which were his highest scores of the season. But Split Happens anchorman Joe Towne was no pushover as he notched lofty 222 and 205 games in the clash. Joe’s efforts were enough to narrowly win both of those games for his team. Split Happens won that first game by just 12 pins and the third game by a mere 6 pins. The powerhouse Incredibowls swamped Split Happens in the second game, winning by 137 pins which gave them the series total by 119 sticks good for the 2-2 split. Competitive matches don’t get any better. This is the essence of what makes league bowling so much fun.
That split gave Incredibowls 28 wins for the half, Split Happens finished second with 26.5 wins, The Munsons got third with 26 wins, Unbowlievables and Over the Line were just a tick back, tied for fourth with 25 wins. Yes, things are always quite close in this exciting league.
Two other teams had a good chance to win the first half of the league depending on the out-come of their final matches. The Munsons bowled against The BowLeeAnders and needed a 4-0 sweep but were only able to win 2 games.
The fourth place Unbowlievables also had a good chance to win the first half, but they got swept by Pins in Low Places 4-0. Pins in Low Places all-star anchor Melissa Werkheiser keyed this trouncing by rolling her high series of the season, a beautiful 626 but get this, Melissa started her first game with a huge 270! Folks, it takes a ton of strikes to notch a big game like that which would intimidate anyone, no wonder The Unbowlievables got swept. And ladies, take note, as we always point out, this is one of the prime reasons why bowling is such a great game, women can beat men. Great bowling Melissa!
Currently the County league is only in the second week of its second half and The Munsons (Dane Backman, Tommy Hood, and Jay Slack) are in first place with 8 wins. The Unbowlieva-bles is in second with seven wins and Split Happens is in third with six wins. There are nine weeks to go in the second half of the league.

Tuesday Nite Mixed league: Currently we are four weeks into the second half of the Mixed league and Taco Tuesday (Flo Fleming, Roy Fleming, Joella Dethman, and Paul Dethman) is in first place with 11 wins. Gutter Dawgs is in second with 10 wins and Mad Skilz is in third with 9 wins. 7 weeks to go in the second half of the league.

Wednesday senior Colts and Fillies league: Currently we are three weeks into the second half of the league and Skamaniacs (Karen Baumsteiger, Janet Harrington, and Dave Baumsteiger) have resumed their old familiar role in first place with 10 wins. Rice Krispies and Jesse’s Team are in second, tied with nine wins each. 12 weeks to go in the second half of the league.

Wednesday evening Fraternal league: With only two weeks left in the second round, Bloom Auto Body (Jeremy Bloom, Mark Chabotte, and Bryan Mason) have a commanding 20 point lead in first place. The auto body benders are leading with 145.5 points. Hood River Athletic Club is in second with 125 points and Orchard Lanes is in third with 121.5 points. The week after this one will be a position round where first place bowls second place and third place bowls fourth place and so on so even though the Bloomers look comfortable right now, if the Clubbers and Lanes teams get out their brooms, which they are easily capable of doing, they can still win round two.
