The Dalles hospital has been added to the list of hospitals in the national that will serve as depot hospitals for the limited distribution of penicillin for civilian use, it was announced late Saturday by the chemicals bureau of the war production board. Other Oregon hospitals added to the list were the Klamath Valley hospital, Salem Deaconess hospital, Salem General hospital, Tillamook General hospital, and five Portland hospitals. It was warned that production of penicillin is still largely confined to military use, but it is expected that an increasing supply will be released for civilian purposes during the next few months. — The Dalles Daily Chronicle, June 12, 1944
