Regarding the Feb. 7 mystery mystery, Curt Leslie wrote the map‘s label, “The people’s bridge,” refers to The Dalles Bridge. At the time, “the salmon bridge” was the only toll-free bridge between Portland and Pasco, about 230 river miles, Leslie said. It provided free passage to everyone from The Dalles residents, to Yakima and Warm Springs Reservations residents, who were often discriminated against by bridge and ferry operators, he recalled.
