CGOA Chamber Music concert Jan. 13
The Columbia Gorge Orchestra Association presents an afternoon of chamber music with strings, brass, winds, and voice at Hood River Valley Christian Church on Sunday, Jan. 13, at 2 p.m.
Admission is free and donations are accepted. The program will be an afternoon of intimate, lyrical and captivating music for small ensembles (Hood River String Quartet) and large ensembles (10-piece brass), with selections from Gabrieli, Vivaldi, Schubert, Villa Lobos, and Arvo Pärt, the contemporary Estonian composer.
Are you interested in joining Adult Center Theater (ACT) for its 2019 season? A production planning meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 3 p.m. A lights and sound training meeting with Liz Siller is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 19, at 9 a.m. - 12 noon. Both meetings are at the Adult Center, 2010 Sterling Place, Hood River.
The production meeting will focus on the upcoming April production of “Five Short Plays about Parents and Adult Children,” directed by Irene Fields. The lights and sound training session will introduce you to the Adult Center’s new stage lighting and sound system and give you the needed technology experience to join the tech team.
“We look forward to adopting more people into our production family for set construction, lights and sound, stage management, ticket sales, and actors. Experience is helpful but not necessary,” says Ken McCarty of the ACT Committee.
ACT productions help raise funds for the Hood River County Meals on Wheels Program.

Makerspace Teen Crafting, Wednesday, Jan. 9, 4:30-5:30 p.m. Teens can drop into the Makerspace and make something. Supplies and possible project ideas are on hand; results are up to the maker’s imagination. This program is recommended for ages 12 to 20.
Make a Bouncy Ball, Saturday, Jan. 19, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Teens will make a bouncy ball using cornstarch and glue. Snacks will be available. This program is recommended for ages 10 and up.
Teen Movie Night: “The Hate U Give” Saturday, Jan. 26, 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. “The Hate U Give” is a “compelling coming of age film” based on the New York Times bestseller by Angie Thomas. Please note that this film includes realistic violence and is recommended for teens ages 13 and up.

The Secret Salsa Society meets Friday, Jan. 11, at the White Salmon Grange, at 7:30 p.m. Guest instructor Sarah Riddle (Viscount Studio) will be on hand for beginner dance lessons.

Opening Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center, is a “powerful display of intense, real-time Eagle Creek fire imagery along with facts, time lines and stories from first responders to friends and neighbors along the Columbia River.
