Marimba dance party benefits Peace Village Feb. 19
Boka Marimba, Portland's legendary marimba band, will be warming up the Bingen Theater on Friday, Feb. 19, with high energy dance music from Zimbabwe/Southern Africa. Boka will play their unique and infectious style of African music on marimbas, embellished with drum set and singing.
Opening the evening will be two local student marimba groups from the Musango Marimba Center in Hood River. “Ingwe” consists of eight young musicians ranging in age from 8-13, and “Tsoko” consists of six musicians, ages 10-17.
The $10 admission benefites Columbia Gorge Peace Village, and Tariro, a grassroots non-profit organization working in Zimbabwe to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS

‘Bird Nerds’ meet Valentine’s Day
On Feb. 14, the Gorge Bird Nerds will be meeting at Dog River Coffee at 7 a.m., then departing just before 8 a.m. to head to Nichols Basin to view the Black-Crowned Night Herons, ducks and other birds of the Columbia River.
The group will be discussing past data collection by citizen science volunteers on the Black-Crowned Night Heron roost there and habitat changes with recent development. Data will be collected to contribute to the Great Backyard Bird Count. Visit gbbc.birdcount.org/about for more information.
