Plays for Non-Profits Aug. 21-23
Join Plays for Non-Profits for staged readings of two plays, “Inherit the Wind” and “The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail,” at Columbia Center for the Arts in downtown Hood River the weekends of Aug. 21-23 and Aug. 27-29.
These plays share a common theme, “The Art of Protest.” Seasoned director Lynda Dallman returns to direct “Inherit the Wind,” while William Weiler directs “The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail.” Proceeds from these productions benefit the SMART program, Hood River County Libraries, The Next Door and Columbia Gorge Ecology Institute. Shows will be performed at Columbia Center for the Arts, 215 Cascade Ave. Hood River.
Hop Trip returns to Sandbar
Hop Trip will be at the Sandbar Cafe on the Waterfront this Saturday, Aug. 8, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Mark Daly, Bart Popenoe, and George Bentz will be joined by a few special guests at “one of the best outside venues in the Gorge.”
Blues with Duffy Bishop at Griffin House Aug. 9
The Duffy Bishop Band, featuring Duffy Bishop (vocals), Chris Carlson (guitar), Dean Mueller (bass), and Carlton Jackson (drums), play a house concert at the Griffin House on Sunday, Aug. 9. Doors open at 6 p.m. and some proceeds benefits The Next Door non-profit: Strengthening Children, Families & Communities.

As a longtime Pacific Northwest resident, Duffy Bishop has become a one of the top Blues Singers on the West Coast. She is in the Cascade Blues Association and Washington Blues Society Hall Of Fame, and a recipient of both organizations' Lifetime Achievement Award.
