Two local churches will be offering a “Our Whole Lives Lifespan Sexuality Education” program starting in September.
Although the programs are sponsored by the churches, they are non-religious and do not promote religious doctrine. “Our Whole Lives” helps participants make informed and responsible decisions about their sexual health and behavior.
The curriculum, developed by the Unitarian Universalist Association and the United Church of Christ, equips participants with accurate, age-appropriate information in six subject areas: human development, relationships, personal skills, sexual behavior, sexual health, and society and culture.
Grounded in a holistic view of sexuality, Our Whole Lives not only provides facts about anatomy and human development but also helps participants clarify their values, build interpersonal skills and understand the spiritual, emotional, and social aspects of sexuality. Unlike many other sexuality curricula, this program is comprehensive and progressive. The underlying values of the program reflect the justice-oriented traditions of both denominations.
The curriculum is designed for seventh through ninth graders.
