Jan Lee and friends put a new twist on the old West slogan, “Roll ‘em, Roll ‘em.”
Bunko night at Lee’s house featured Western theme, complete with a barbecue spread cooked up by friend and neighbor Ann Bernard, in support of Lee’s ongoing recovery from a debilitating stroke three years ago.
Bunko is a popular dice game, played by 12 people at three tables, and Bunko groups like Lee’s take turns hosting a Bunko night, complete with elaborate food, decorations and swag. Lee and her husband, Randall, hosted the event, with help from Bernard, who had this to say:
“A very dear friend who has been the lead host of a Bunko club in the valley for several years suffered a stroke. Doctors said ‘not much hope, she won’t make it.’” (A fact confirmed by Randall.)
“But with many prayers and lots of loving support from Randal and many others, she has made a remarkable recovery.
“It’s been three long years and she has not given up. Hosting Bunko is a real challenge yet she has done her best to continue.
“Jan, a loving, generous gal, carried out what may be the best Bunko night the girls have ever had.
“This one’s a ‘Sparkles and Spurs’ ranch girl theme and, wow, it was a doozy, with glitter and lace, boots and hats, not to mention the barbecue feast.
“This will be an event she will long remember and cherish.”
Bernard adds, “If you haven’t played Bunko, seek out a group or consider starting one up. It’s a blast. Never have 12 ladies enjoyed so much fun and laughter once a month in each others’ homes.”
