THE DALLES — Wasco County District Attorney Kara Davis reported May 27 that Noe Zaragoza Jr. was sentenced in Wasco County Circuit Court for the June 22, 2024, murder of Michael Boyer at Center Market in The Dalles.
“Zaragoza received a sentence of 25 years, an amount equivalent to a life sentence in Oregon, pursuant to his plea agreement. The sentencing hearing was held before Judge Marion Weatherford,” Davis said in a media release.
The settlement was reached after a day-long settlement conference overseen by Judge John Olson and both Boyer’s mother and widow participated in the settlement conference, she said.
“The family was deeply concerned that the defense strategy at trial would be attacking Mr. Boyer and his wife. This belief was not unfounded. It was important to not add to the family’s grief by re-traumatizing them with a trial. But it was also very important to me that Mr. Zaragoza receive a murder-length sentence for the murder he committed,” Davis said.
Zaragoza pled to several charges. The charges and sentences are as follows:
Manslaughter in the First Degree: 10 years
Unlawful Use of a Weapon: 5 years, consecutive to all other counts
Unlawful Use of a Weapon: 5 years, consecutive to all other counts
Assault in the Third Degree: 5 years, consecutive to all other counts
