The Bouncy Swing

As a little girl,

I remember sitting in it with my grandfather

On their porch in northern Indiana.

He put springs from a Model T Ford

On the upper ends of the chains.

When you sit in it, it rocks gently.

When she was a little girl,

Our granddaughter, Sonia,

Named it ‘the bouncy swing’.

The name stuck!

I have rocked many children to sleep

In that swing.

Now my husband and I sit in it

And enjoy the late afternoon sunshine.

Our view south is of Mt. Hood,

Where it encompasses

The entire horizon.

Many times I have told Jim,

“People come from all over the world

To see that mountain.

And we have it in our backyard!”
