The run brought together seasoned runners, families, and local supporters for a morning of fitness, fun, and community. It also served to raise awareness about CASA’s (Court Appointed Special Advocates) advocacy for children who have experienced abuse or neglect in Hood River, Wasco, and Sherman counties.
Costumes added extra color and creativity to the trail. A lively costume contest awarded prizes for best dog, adult, and child outfits, adding to the festive atmosphere.

THE GORGE — More than 200 runners, walkers, and community members registered for the Columbia Gorge CASA Fall Family Run, presented by McDonald’s of the Gorge. The event took place on Oct. 4 at the Mark O. Hatfield Trailhead in Hood River.

Before the race began, participants got energized with a high-spirited warm-up led by Jill Catherine of the Gorge Leadership Institute. Studio Fit helped keep runners hydrated with strategically placed water stations along the course, while McDonald’s welcomed finishers with a well-earned breakfast at the finish line.
Runners of all ages hit the trail, with participants choosing between a non-timed 1-mile run/walk and a timed 5K. Victor Coffman was the top male finisher in the 5K with an impressive time of 18:00 (5:47 pace), followed by Jeff Fisher at 19:08 and Cael Price at 20:44. On the women’s side, Rebecca Thistlethwaite led the pack with a time of 26:02, with Bennie Cushman and Krista Cushman close behind at 26:37 and 26:38, respectively.

“We are thrilled by the turnout and the incredible energy our Gorge community brings to supporting CASA,” said Executive Director Christopher Janetzko. “Whether people came to run, walk, or volunteer, their participation is helping to support our nonprofit's advocacy for children.”
This year’s event was made possible by the support of local sponsors, including McDonald’s of the Gorge, A Kidz Dental Zone, One Community Health, Columbia Bank, NW Natural, Columbia Gorge Pain Management, Mid-Columbia Christian School, Cascade Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Center, P.C., and the Hood River Hotel.
