Skedaddled — Troopers responded to the last known location of a stolen vehicle in Hood River on Oct. 2. They found the vehicle at a gas station, but it sped off. Local police and county deputies helped find the car, which was last seen escaping a deputy in a parking lot near E. Port Marina Drive. Hood River police deflated the vehicle’s tires; it crossed into Washington and was found empty alongside Highway 14.
Forgery — Troopers stopped a Volvo on I-84 for operating with a “clearly fictitious” temporary permit. The suspect admitted producing multiple forged temporary permits and received a criminal citation. Meanwhile, Wasco County and The Dalles logged two frauds, ID theft, and nine thefts. Hood River logged theft from Napa Auto Parts on Sept. 27, and a forged $100 bill.
Two non-injury crashes — Reported by OSP: Two commercial trailers struck while trying to park beside I-84. A Subaru lost a wheel on I-84.
Seizure crash — A driver suffered a seizure while on I-84 Sept. 30, and was transported by EMS to a hospital after minor contact with law enforcement, who warned them for multiple traffic violations during the medical emergency.
Brain tissue — A trooper saw an elk head in back of a pickup on I-84. Killed in Montana, it still contained brain tissue; they seized the head for destruction The driver kept the antlers, plus a citation for Import of Restricted Cervid Parts.
Informed of another elk with the spinal cord and brain matter attached, troopers seized it from Salle Custom Meats. The meat was donated. Case under investigation.
Injury crash — Sept. 28, Oregon State and The Dalles police helped chase a Volkswagon west on I-84, after a Wasco deputy tried to stop it for speeding. The OSP sergeant’s vehicle was hit; the suspect took Exit 76, crashed into a parked semi, and was transported by air ambulance for serious injuries. Wasco County filed charges, OSP the crash report.
Other crashes — Wasco County logged two crashes on Natural Pasture Road, I-84. The Dalles logged six, with two on W. Sixth and two on E. 10th.
Charges — Sept. 27-Oct. 2, OSP charged people with driving suspended (two), DUII (one), fail to report (one), forgery (one). Sept. 21-27, Hood River police charged people with disorderly conduct (two), DUII (two), minor in possession (three), reckless driving (one), warrant (two).
Other agencies don’t log arrests but Wasco County and The Dalles logged seven warrant-related incidents.
Stats — Wasco County made two logs of domestic violence, one of child neglect. The Dalles made six logs of domestic violence, one of child neglect, two of assault. Officers arrested a Hood River resident on two warrants covering 14 charges of domestic violence Sept. 25.
Critters — Wasco County and The Dalles met nine dogs and three other critters.
Death — One on NE Aikin Street on Oct. 1. Another unattended death on Garden Court, The Dalles, on Sept. 27.
Marine — Wasco deputies responded to a marine call from the Deschutes River on Sept. 26.
Mental health — The Dalles and Wasco County logged eight mental health calls and four suicidal incidents.
Burglaries — logged on E. Eighth, The Dalles, on Sept. 27, and on Dufur Avenue on Sept. 30. In Hood River, tools were taken from a shed on Sept. 23.
DUIIs — The Dalles logged eight around town last week.
133 mph — Sept. 27, Hood River police cited a Washington resident for going 133 mph on I-84 at Exit 62. The vehicle was towed for lack of driver’s license.
Fighting and drinking — Sept. 25, Hood River officers responded to a fight in progress at Center Market. The involved persons had left a short time before.
Multiple got citations for disorderly conduct and minor in possession of alcohol after officers contacted them near Jackson Park. About 11 minutes later, a very drunk young person who “ran from an underage drinking party” was arrested and cited. A “large amount of juveniles” involved had escaped, but two received citations.
Felony hit-and-run — On Sept. 23, Hood River police responded to a hit and run regarding a bicycle and a sedan. There’s no suspects and the person who was hit had minor injuries.
